Hemorrhoids (also called piles) affect one million American men and women a year. Because of the sensitive (embarrassing) nature of this affliction, many suffer unnecessarily for a long time prior to seeking help.
That’s why Dr. Brent Evetts founded The Hemorrhoid Clinic.
Our goal of this unique, specialized clinic is, first, to provide patients with easy access to prompt and expert evaluation of their hemorrhoids in a caring and understanding environment.
Then, we deliver the most effective treatment for their particular case.
Our services include non-surgical management techniques such as rubber band ligation, sclerotherapy and appropriate medical management.
When surgery is required, the least painful and most effective state-of-the-art procedures are always utilized.
However, the majority of patients with hemorrhoids can be treated successfully without surgery.
From your initial visit and exam to a complete diagnostic workup, treatment and after-care, we provide you with a continuum of care that is detailed, thorough and dedicated to your medical success.
Our widely experienced staff is renowned for working closely with each patient to insure your experience with us is highly personal, always attentive, and above all – trusting.

Frequently Asked Questions
Trust Dr. Evetts to answer the most-asked questions about colonoscopy.
What are hemorrhoids?
Hemorrhoids (also called piles) are described as a condition where the veins surrounding the anus or lower rectum become swollen and inflamed. These enlarged veins and surrounding tissue produce pain, itching and bleeding.
How common are hemorrhoids?
They are very common in both men and women of all ethnicities. Though they can occur at any age, they seem to be most prevalent between the ages of 45 and 65.
What causes hemorrhoids?
Why hemorrhoids enlarge, causing pain, is not known. Several theories have been proposed including straining during bowel movements, chronic constipation or diarrhea, or inadequate intake of fiber.
None of these theories have been proven. However, pregnancy often causes hemorrhoids due to the pressure of the fetus in the abdomen and hormonal changes.
What are the symptoms of hemorrhoids?
The most common symptom of internal hemorrhoids (those occurring out of sight, higher up in the anal canal) is bright red blood on the stool, toilet paper or in the toilet bowl.
Symptoms of external hemorrhoids (visible and occurring outside of the anus) include painful swelling or a hard lump around the anus.
How are hemorrhoids diagnosed?
At The Hemorrhoid Clinic we will perform a careful, thorough medical history and evaluation of the anus and rectum to look for swollen blood vessels that indicate hemorrhoids.
The exam will also include an evaluation for another possible explanation of the patient’s symptoms as many problems in this area are often confused with hemorrhoids.
Is there anything I can do right now, for temporary relief?
Dr. Evetts recommends sitz baths, a high fiber diet and/or fiber supplements, over-the-counter pain medication and over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream.
